Our story
A family of animal lovers, since 1970.
What began as an unforeseen pet pregnancy has become a multi-generational breeding practice rooted in welfare, ethics, and the simple belief that our animals are family.
From a freak pregnancy to a lifetime of breeding.
In 1970, an unforeseen pet pregnancy marked the beginning of what would become Thackerys. What started with one litter quickly became a calling — and over the decades, it has evolved into a careful, conscientious breeding practice that prioritises the health and well-being of every animal, from birth right through to their integration into permanent homes.
Thackerys is more than a breeding establishment. It represents a legacy of animal lovers, with even the youngest generation — represented by Bradley — actively participating in the day-to-day care of the animals.
Our smallholding is also home to a rescue pony, sheep and geese. The same welfare principles that guide our breeding programme guide everything we do here: optimal nutrition, comfortable living conditions, and the freedom to live as family.

Our principles
Welfare comes first. Always.
It is our staunch belief that the welfare of our animals supersedes all else. They are family. Every animal at Thackerys is assured optimal care, nutrition, and comfort.
Small numbers, by design
We breed in small numbers so that each litter receives the time, attention and early socialisation they need to thrive.
DNA-tested health
All puppies are sold with PRA and FN clear laboratory certificates. We test every parent for the conditions that most concern Cockapoos and Cocker Spaniels.
Nutrition from day one
Our dogs are raised on a fresh, veterinary-formulated diet. We partner with Butternut Box because their food meets the standard we feed at home.
Open to every family
We invite prospective owners to meet parents, view the kennels and ask as many questions as they need before committing.
Licensed and accountable
We are proud to be a licensed breeding establishment, holding accreditation from Brentwood County Council under licence number 22/00146/LIANI.
Meet the people
Three generations under one roof.
Thackerys is run as a family. Susan and Stephanie founded the practice; Stephanie now runs her own home alongside her mother, and the youngest of the family, Bradley, is already part of the daily routine. Every dog in our care passes through these hands.
